“Hospital Grade” Air Purification System

Evin at Oconomowoc, a community that offers independent living, assisted living, and memory care, is taking an innovative approach during the coronavirus pandemic. The development team is focusing on controlling the spread of viruses.

Cleaning, sanitation and infection control is always a priority standard protocol for senior living, but Matter CEO Aaron Matter said Evin is taking big leaps forward in several different ways.

“Residents and families ask about how we’re responding,” Matter said. “One way is through a rigorous process of researching and installing a very safe hospital-grade air purification system that is used by both UW Hospital Madison and Mayo Clinic.”

Matter said that U.S. Air Force studies show the system to kill pathogens and viruses in the air, including coronavirus. As an even greater air quality consideration, every apartment in the building has its own entirely separate HVAC system. Common area HVAC is separate from the apartments, and the HVAC for memory care is separate from the rest of the community, Matter noted.

The senior living community features keyless locks, a video capable entrance system for visitors so residents can see who is visiting them, commercial laundry machines for a higher level of sanitation and a state-of-the-art whirlpool spa tub with FDA-recognized UV water purification system.

Andy Lange, president of Koru Health, said the community is thinking of the families and resident lifestyles. “We are creating a personal safety visitor lounge with a separate exterior entrance, and special considerations that allow the most opportunities possible for safe visiting by families and friends if there is a future flareup,” Lange said.

Lange said Evin is a smaller and more intimate senior living community with only 80 apartments, “which provides the scale necessary for excellent quality and resources, but not so large that it becomes difficult to implement high-quality health measures. A smaller building means fewer disruptions to residents’ lives in the event we have to respond to an outbreak.”

Leah’s Top 3 Things Seniors Can Do To Refresh Their Homes for Spring

Springtime is upon us and, while it may feel a little quieter around the house these days, here are three easy things that our Interior Designer, Leah Ogden, says you can do to boost your spirits and give your home a fresh look!

See renderings of Leah’s work on the Evin at Oconomowoc interiors by visiting our Amenities page: click here

“Trading Places”

Nothing says spring like bright colors. While it might be difficult get your dining room repainted, a new accent pillow, throw, or table runner can really freshen up your space with minimal effort. Even moving items around your house can make a space feel different. I bet you didn’t think your guest room pillows would work on your living room sofa, did you?! If you’re in the mood to shop online for something new, most retailers are having sales on tons of items, so take advantage before stock runs out!

Flower Power

Whether you have a garden in your backyard to pick from or not, a vase of fresh cut flowers on your dining table or kitchen counter instantly enlivens your senses and brings a nice pop of color into your space. Tulips are a personal favorite and come in many different hues!

If flowers aren’t your thing, fresh greens can work just as well. For example, Whole Foods Market sells many different varieties of mixed filler greens and they tend to be easier on your wallet than most flower arrangements. My favorite green variety is fresh eucalyptus as it gives off a clean and fresh scent —plus it can last for weeks, especially if you let it air dry! For any type of flower or green, please remember to cut the ends off and change the water every few days to perk up those buds!

Family Photos

Due to social distancing, many of us are not able to physically visit with family members and are spending more time inside our homes. If you’re like me, you have loads of picture frames sprinkled around every room. Try doing a spring refresh with those old photos and swap for newer ones or take a trip down memory lane with MUCH older photos! A new frame or two can make all the difference in helping your space feel different.

Another option is to purchase a digital frame (The Aura Digital Frame is my personal favorite) where family members can upload photos directly to your frame, helping you to digitally connect while we are still apart!

Flyover Video – April 2020

Evin at Oconomowoc – Senior Living is rapidly becoming an icon on the hilltop overlooking Lac La Belle and Silver Lake in Oconomowoc – just off the 18th fairway of Paganica Golf Course (which you can finally see in the flyover video below)! Our beautiful new community is on schedule to open at 1101 Silver Lake Street in Fall of this year.

If you’re wondering, “What am I seeing here?”:

  • The gray “donut” is our Specialty Care wing on the lower level. This will be for those who need a higher level of daily assistance, and/or memory care. (Around 0:14 in the video)
  • Eventually, you’ll see an outdoor rooftop patio and a green roof over the Specialty Care portion of the building.
  • The center of the “donut” in Specialty Care is a secure outdoor courtyard that will have beautiful landscaping.
  • The great looking mower lines that show up around 0:25 are the fairways of our neighbor, Paganica Golf Course
  • The pond (around 0:31) will eventually empty out and storm-water will flow from that rain garden, naturally filtered and cleaned, into the wetlands
  • The lake (around 0:34) is Silver Lake to our south
  • And the big finish at the end is Evin’s front door! – under the canopy drop-off.

We’ve Started Construction!

“A new senior living community has started construction in Oconomowoc. Matter Development, in partnership with Koru Health, announced Oct. 7 it will open Evin at Oconomowoc in 2020. A groundbreaking ceremony on the development was scheduled for Oct. 10.

The development is situated on 7 acres at the site of the former YMCA at 1101 Silver Lake St. The four-story community will feature 80 units for seniors, including independent living and specialty care services.

“Lake Country-area seniors haven’t had many new rental options for a long time, so this is an important project,” said Matter CEO Aaron Matter. “We’re a Wisconsin firm with proud local roots, and we try to find optimal locations near sought-after communities where we think we can make a big impact. So, given the opportunity to acquire the former YMCA site in Oconomowoc — the heart of Lake Country — and develop a new community for seniors, we jumped on it because it’s a perfect fit.”

Evin at Oconomowoc Breaks Ground

Mayor Dave Nold (left) shakes the hand of Aaron Matter of Matter Development, one of the Owners of Evin at Oconomowoc.

“Oconomowoc was chosen for the development because Matter and his team wanted to be a part of the local community, he said. “We want out future residents to know that we are here to support them at home, but our goal is for them to live their lives out in the community where they have always been,” Matter said.”
